World Cup Debate: How Diego Maradona Has Turned Argentina From World Cup Contenders Into World Cup No-Hopers

Argentina are in serious risk of not qualifying for the 2010 World Cup following their 3-1 defeat to bitter rivals Brazil. Carlo Garganese explains everything that Diego is doing wrong…



We have seen many times in the past in the great players make great coaches, and now seems to have happened again with the best player of them all - Diego Maradona.

As a Neapolitan, which saddens this writer to say this because Maradona is a God in Campania, but the 48 year old is not made for sitting on the bench. With the players at its disposal, Argentina should already be qualified for South Africa. However, with only three matches in their group to go CONMEBOL - two of which are difficult trips to Paraguay and Uruguay - and only two points separate the fourth-placed albicelestes Colombia and Ecuador in the fifth and sixth, there is a very real possibility losing in their first finals in 40 years.
