Palermo gets surprise recall to Argentina squad

Veteran striker Martin Palermo was surprisingly named in the Argentina squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Paraguay.

The 35-year-old has not worn the shirt Argentina in the last nine years, while there were two final calls from other planes made by Diego Maradona to coach Rolando Schiavi and Rodrigo Brana receive their calls on the first Monday night.

Maradona decided to call up the trio after seeing that several of the 25 men who had chosen to come to Argentina with injuries.

Inter Milan duo Nicolas Burdisso and Diego Milito and Boca Juniors midfielder Sebastian Battaglia are almost ruled out for these qualifiers.

Palermo's last appearance was in Argentina for a World Cup qualifier in November 2000, a 2-0 win over Chile....[source]
