Villa ruled out for Spain

David Villa has been ruled out of Spain's final two World Cup qualifiers with a muscle tear in his right leg.

The Valencia striker, who has six goals in six games so far this season in La Liga suffered the injury in his side's 1-0 win over Racing Santander on Sunday.

The club confirmed tonight on their official website the injury is likely to keep him out for three weeks, meaning he will miss Spain's meeting with Armenia on Saturday and with Bosnia-Herzegovina the following Wednesday.

That prognosis would also see Villa miss Valencia's Primera Division encounter with champions Barcelona on October 18.

European Championship holders Spain have already qualified for the World Cup, having won all eight of their qualifiers to date to sit top of Group Five.
