Arsene Wenger confirms Arsenal are still in the hunt for Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny

Gunners pursue replacement for Gallas

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that FC Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny remains a priority transfer this summer as plans for the absence of William Gallas.

The north London is believed to have had an £ 8 million bid rejected by Lorient but do not let that discourage, as it seems.

"There has been an approach for Koscielny and still is one," Wenger said, according to The Sun.

Meanwhile, Wenger beleieves the way Gallas turned away from the Emirates may have disrupted the recovery center in front of a disastrous campaign for the World Cup for the French team.

It has been reported earlier in the tournament that Gallas had something of a fight with other party members of the French coach, Raymond Domenech, the decision to hand the captain's armband to Patrice Evra rather than Gallas.

"I do not know if Gallas has been upset by his departure from Arsenal," added Wenger.

"I knew it would not be 100 percent for this tournament. The question for the director is whether he should have called knowing that Gallas is not 100 percent.

"He's played 35 minutes in four months before here.

"It's not enough to enter a competition like this. When you do not know where you are physically, a player is always fragile.

"William is a boy with a strong will, which is a winner. But what he will do well so bad that sometimes puts too much pressure on himself."
